Milwaukee Public Theater and Milwaukee Mask and Puppet Theatre

Let's Make a Parade!

People of all ages and cultures come together to initiate the 1st grassroots-homegrown event: "of, by, and for the people" of Milwaukee.

The Project is an opportunity to use the tradition of puppetry as the voice of everyman, in the expression of the real and human concerns of daily life. Come, join in to collaborate with neighborhood organizations, artists, and families to explore the fears and aspirations of the greater community. Puppets are immediate and authentic. Hewn from scraps of cloth, paper and duct tape, they are the quintessential tricksters, able to cross boundaries of both opinion and propriety, enabling us to critique society and government with handmade beauty and wit.

Milwaukee Public Theatre and Milwaukee Mask & Puppet Theatre have taken inspiration from In the Heart of the Beast (HOBT)'s Minneapolis May Day Festival which draws tens of thousands of participants and spectators, and has become a 35 year Minneapolis tradition.
